Simon Dexter: When gay porn stars cry

In today’s wonderful series of WTF, porn star Simon Dexter butt heads (hehe) with London-based photographer Dylan Rosser over some racy images — and evidently some misunderstanding of contract law.

So, what’s the deal?

If only porn stars’ reading skills were as good as their performances, this world would be a better place.

Dexter (pictured right) is angry that he was only paid $350 posing for what he thought was a coffee table book campaign. He state that if he knew it was for a “porn website” he would have charged $5000 because, you know, it’s so rare to find a gay person who want to strip naked.

Hell Rosser, I’ll do it for a $5 Starbucks gift card!

Dexter made a public outcry on his blog alleging Rosser (pictured left) of fraudulently posting images that the photographer himself took, on the portfolio website TheMaleForm.

“So last summer he contacted me again about shooting a coffee table book. I agreed and we shot for a very low rate because I wanted to be part of an artistic book,” Dexter stated.

“In the last few days, I have come to find out that these images have been published by Dylan on his membership subscription porn website. This is a clear violation of our agreement and my trust and is HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL” and asked his fans for a call-to-action.

This is going to be bigger than the Egypt revolution!

Popwired requested a copy of the contract from Rosser in which he quickly complied. The contract show that Dexter signed on June 10, 2010 and after careful review — and naps in between —  we determined that Dylan Rosser had the legal rights to do what he wanted with the images — including posting them on this “porn website.”

The major failing component of the contract is that it never states the particular job the photos were being used for. It gave the photographer full rights to publish the images for whatever reason which is a general practice these days.

Now what?

I know we’re gay and we like to use our mouth for almost everything, but because a written contract does exist and take precedence above everything, Simon Dexter has two options:

  1. Be a big man and just let it be… plenty of his nude photos are out there anyways. Take one for your fans!
  2. Continue what he’s doing and be liable for a slander lawsuit.

Rosser told Popwired that the images of Simon Dexter will be removed soon from his website.

For anyone who follow Dylan Rosser’s work, you all know that the photos that are used on TheMaleForm are the same photos that he incorporates into his coffee table book.

It should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

And one more thing, can someone please explain in the comment section the difference between artistic nudes and porn? I don’t think Simon Dexter is defining it correctly.

[UPDATE Feb 22 @ 9:30am CST] “The Issue with Dylan Rosser has been resolved…we have come to an agreement that h(sic) would remove my photos due to the misunderstanding we had. I will remove the comments I posted on him because I respect that he decided to remove my photos as I have asked,” Dexter stated on his facebook page.
